Here's a tip that's working for me. I set a goal to work on my writing for 8 hours a week, for 8 weeks to see where it gets me. To keep track of the time, I'm using a free "punch clock" at http://www.mrkent.com/punchclock/index.htm. It works much better for me than trying to keep track with pencil and paper. After 8 weeks, I want to see if it will be realistic to cut my J-O-B hours by 8 a week, which would then increase my writing time to 16 hours a week!

The amount of time committed to the project isn't key -- it's going to vary for everyone. What makes the difference is the action and the PERSISTENCE.
