But a word of caution… Before I go any further, I want to be sure I've made a couple of things clear right up front… If you’re looking for more traditional career counseling training that incorporates things like skills assessments and personality profiles -- this training program May is definitely not for you. You see, I’m not particularly interested in what a person is “good” at. I mean I’m good at typing and mowing the lawn but that doesn’t mean I want to do either for a living! This program is NOT about counseling people who want to be a junior accountant, a human resources manager, or a pharmaceutical rep. In fact it has nothing whatsoever to do with the world of job searches, resumes, or interview skills. Quite the contrary... Being an Outside the Job Box Career Consultant is all about helping people see all the different ways there are to make a living doing what they love without a “job-job.” Likewise, this program will not train you to become a general “life coach.” Don’t get me wrong. There’s absolutely no reason why you can’t offer your clients ongoing coaching to help them keep their dream on track. But this program will not train you to be a coach. If that’s what you’re looking for, I can refer you to some excellent coach training programs. So, what’s the difference between a consultant and a life coach? For one, coaches typically work with clients over a period of several months, even years. I work with people on a one-time basis. That’s because I have a laser-like focus on one goal and one goal only. And that is helping my clients generate creative alternatives to working 9-to-5. You may decide to structure your practice to offer multiple sessions (and frankly you’ll make more money if you do). But 99 percent of my clients tell me they got exactly what they needed in just one session. The other difference between a consultant and a coach is that, generally speaking, the job of a life coach is to guide people to discover their own answers. But the way I see it, if my clients already knew how to make a living doing what they love -- they wouldn’t be calling me! People hire me because they want expert advice. They also want someone who knows about resources for people who want to start a doggie day care or become a motivational speaker or have a flair for home design or become a travel writer... When you sign on for this Outside the Job Box Career Consultant Certification Summit in May, you’ll learn how to give your clients the ideas, information, and advice they need to get out of the grind of working for someone else and to profit from their passions. I do not want you to sign up if this program isn't right for you… If you've read this far, I think it's safe to assume you're intrigued. And that's great. The reason I don’t want the get-rich-quick types who are constantly flailing about for some “fast and easy” way to change course is that frankly you’d make a really lousy consultant. Your clients are paying you to be both a dreamer and a realist. And you have to realize that any dream takes three things: Desire + Time + Effort. If you don’t understand that simple formula, then you’ll do a disservice to your clients and tarnish my good name in the process. I only want to train people to be Outside the Job Box Career Consultants who are willing to turn business away. You read that right. To be good at this kind of work you have to be willing to turn business away. Sooner or later you’re going to hear from some prospective client who is at the end of their financial rope. And they’re going to be desperate for you to tell them how they can make great money... tomorrow. But that’s impossible. My goal in creating this Certification Summit in May is to help you become the very best Outside the Job Box Career Consultant you can possibly be. So, if you are ready to roll up your sleeves... if you are ready to put in the same effort you’re going to expect your clients to do… then you are one of “my people." You see, I only want to work with people who have big dreams and are willing to work for them. Ernie says his own creative thinking has already generated over a million dollars. No wonder he says creativity is "the poor person’s wealth." Self-employment is the vehicle to living a richer, more balanced life on your own terms. Anyone can be self-employed. But your creativity is the fuel that will make you money. Speaking of making money… a question that came up more than once in the pre-survey for this program was, “Are there people really interested in paying for something that comes so naturally to me?” In a word, YES! I know it seems hard to believe that people will pay you to think outside the box. Something that comes so naturally to you. But believe me, what you have to offer is unique -- and in demand. Traditional career counselors are, as the saying goes, “a dime a dozen.” But have you ever gone looking for a consultant who specializes in working with individuals seeking to discover their calling so they can quit their jobs to work for themselves? See for yourself. Look up “Career Counselors” in your local phone book. You’ll be hard pressed to find any specializing in self-employment, multiple income streams, or other creative alternatives to getting a j-o-b. Yet people yearn for those services. Last year, a CareerBuilder survey found that 84% of US workers aren't in their dream jobs. Forty-seven million people said they're interested in changing careers. (And you can be sure a healthy percentage of those would prefer to be working for themselves.) So the next logical question is: “How much can I make?" When you work for yourself... the sky’s the limit!Even if legally I were allowed to speculate on your projected earnings (which I’m not), I wouldn’t pretend to know how much you will personally earn. There are just way too many variables and options involved in a business like this to speculate.
You might think being unable to nail down a specific dollar figure up front is a bad thing. Trust me, it’s not. As someone who now brings in close to six times my former corporate salary, let me tell you -- having lots of options is a very good thing. Why? Because options = opportunity. Think about it... In a j-o-b, someone else decides how much you’re "worth.” No matter how hard you work, or how long your commute is, or how many overtime hours you take from your life and give to your employer -- your paycheck is exactly the same. The beauty of working for yourself is that you are in control. In control of your time, in control of your schedule, and ultimately in control of your earnings... You get to decide things like...
Don’t worry if you can’t answer these questions right now. When you sign on for the Certification Summit in May, you will receive all the tools you need to design the perfect business model for you. As your own “changing course vision” starts to become clear, you’ll be able to answer the “How much can I earn?” question for yourself. That’s because, as part of your certification, you’ll learn an easy way to project your own future earnings based on what you want your life -- and your bank account -- to look like. We're going to get into this in a lot more detail in May, but let me give you something to at least start with. Let's take me as an example... When I first started out, I charged my clients $85 for a 90-minute session. My current fee is $195. These numbers are real. The following scenario is one I created for you so you can see how to crunch the numbers to estimate earnings for yourself. Let's say I want to give myself eight weeks of vacation every year. And since I want to smell a few roses the rest of the year, I decide to take Fridays off. So now I've got this 4-day work week. But I only want to do career consulting part-time. That way I can use the other time to work on various other income streams like creating eBooks, running workshops, or developing various passive income streams. Now that I have an idea of how I want my life to look... if I set up my business to see one client in the morning and another one later that day or evening, that's a total of eight clients a week. If you pull out a calculator you'll see that comes out a weekly income of $1,560. Keep in mind that I still want to give myself two months vacation each year and enjoy my three-day weekends. So if I multiply $1,560 x 44 weeks that comes to $68,640 a year. Naturally, when I do these earnings projections for myself, I also add in all the other ways I make money (you’ll be learning more about how to create additional income streams at this Certification Summit in May). But just on the consulting side of the business, do you see how to start estimating your own potential earnings? If I decide to add a Saturday morning consulting slot (great for working clients) or to take only every other Friday off, I'll make more. If I want to take three months vacation or only see one client a day, it still comes down to pulling out a calculator and doing the math. This example is based on one ideal lifestyle scenario and fee. Now the way this Training and Business Development Summit is designed, you will have everything you need to actually start bringing in money as an Outside the Job Box Career Consultant within a month of returning home. But I want to be clear: In the beginning I guarantee you will earn less -- especially if you are starting this business while also in the process of transitioning from your job-job. In other words, what you need to understand here -- and this is really important -- is that when you’re self-employed, how much you earn is limited only by your own imagination.
